History

The modern day Youth Federation is very different to when it was started in 1952. In 2011 the Youth Federation took over the running of the Fermain Charity in Macclesfeild. The original Youth Federation Charity and the Fermain Charity came together under one umbrella organisation, Youth Federation Ltd. Although two different charities, the Board of Directors are proud to be making a difference to young people through both charities.

Youth Federation was originally formed in 1952 by Lord Leverhulme as Cheshire Association of Boys Clubs. CABC was tasked with supporting youth organisations across Cheshire in order that volunteers and staff could deliver a quality service to young people across the county.

As the Borough Councils emerged the Cheshire Federation of Youth Clubs as it became  known, increased its reach to include Halton, Warrington and Wirral and the organisation became fully constituted in 1976. The organisation stayed the Cheshire Federation of Youth Clubs until 1999 when it became Youth Federation as it has remained until the present day.

To celebrate our 60th anniversary, we have received funding to produce a full historical record, The book will be available from November 2012.
