University of Chester volunteer, Kirsty Ashton was shortlisted as one of the national finalists for the 'Spirit Award' and won!   Kirsty volunteers for ‘When You Wish upon a Star’.

 

'When you Wish Upon a Star' grants wishes to children in the UK with life threatening illnesses.  Kirsty has raised over £83,000 for the charity through innovative ideas including a Valentine's Ball, a sponsored Spell, a Rugby Tournament and numerous other events which she has got sponsorship for from local businesses.   Kirsty has also written a book about her experiences suffering from Neurofibromatosis to raise money for charity. The money she raised paid for 94 children to travel to Lapland.

 

Halton YAT coordinated and delivered 'Shining Stars' film and Art exhibition at the Brinley Theatre, Runcorn celebrating community volunteering. The event was sponsored by Youth Bank and received acclaimed through local press and media.

 

In Cheshire volunteers were recognised during National Volunteers’ Week at two Celebration events recognising young volunteers for 100 hours of voluntary work. The University of Chester also held the annual Valedictory Service on the 4th of June where five volunteers were recognised for their volunteering achievements and one volunteer Kate Morris, 23, was invited to the Royal Garden Party in recognition of her voluntary work with the University of Chester Summer Schools.

 

Halvon vinvolved Team also developed 'HYVE' the good practice guide for recruiting and managing young volunteers in Halton.
