YAF News

A group of young people from the Macclesfield Youth Achievement Foundation got their hands dirty when a local housing trust, Cheshire Peaks and Plains volunteered their time to refurbish the base at Fermaine Youth Club.  Peaks and Plains began working closely with Youth Achievement Foundation, offering work placements for the young people and supporting the mentor programme.  Kevin Bradburne, Teacher in Charge at Macclesfield was delighted when they then offered to come and help refurbish their premises with the help of the young people.

The day started off well with the young people keen to get to work straight away, assisting the team of volunteers.  The group was split in to four and set a challenge to decorate, manage or design something that could be used for multipurpose activities in the future.  After painting, constructing and planting for the whole day, the results were amazing.  The young people can now enjoy their achievements by making use of the garden and indoor facilities.

Thank you so much to Peaks and Plains for their continued support.

Youth Achievement Foundations Continue to Catch Attention

The Youth Federation’s work in Macclesfield and Wirral received national recognition this month as Kevin Bradburne and Chris Hindley delivered a presentation at the Capita Alternative Education Conference in Manchester.

Setting out the tremendous progress that has been made in East Cheshire and the plans for the first Wirral Foundation, Kevin and Chris were able to highlight the successes that youth work based approaches can bring within educational settings. Working with students who are excluded or under the threat of exclusion from mainstream education, the Youth Achievement Foundations deliver accredited qualifications through engaging young people in vocational activities.
