The Green Machine; An environmental residential to design a resource pack of activities and ideas for young people designed and created by young people.
The residential took place during August 08 at Ivy Farm, Wirral.
18 young girls were involved in the design, delivery and participation of the residential.
Cheshire Children’s Fund funded this particular project, the aim was to create a ‘tool’ in the form of a resource pack for community groups and affiliated Youth Federation groups to access. The activities were different crafts and sessions that could be designed from or with recycled equipment and materials.
The materials used could be easily picked up from car boot sales or ones own house.
Some of the ideas are tangible whilst others are purely participation or encouragement of community involvement. It also gives tips of what needs to be considered when working with young people.
The pack will be available later in the year.
The girls were identified by staff of the Youth Federation and some places were rolled out to affiliated groups.
The sleeping arrangements meant it had to be all females or males, the females showed more interest so we developed a young girl / women programme.
We have tried to ensure the activities would be of interest to male and female even though it was full female participation and involvement.
