Registered Umbrella Body

Youth Federation is a Registered Body of the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) a service which supports organisations who work with children, young people and vulnerable adults make safer recruitment decisions.

Youth Federation also acts as an umbrella organisation for voluntary youth organisations in Cheshire, Halton, Warrington & Wirral to enable groups to access CRB disclosures for staff and volunteers. Organisations and groups wishing to access this service will need to apply to Youth Federation.

Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) & The Vetting & Barring Scheme (VBS)

The Independent Safeguarding Authority was set up to help prevent unsuitable people from working with children and vulnerable adults. The ISA’s role within the VBS will be to make independent barring decisions on people that are unsuitable to work with young people children or vulnerable adults.

From July 2010 any new entrants to the workforce will be required to apply for an ISA check as part of the existing CRB application process. Existing workforce staff and volunteers will be able to apply from April 2011. Once the scheme is rolled out it will be an offence to employ any volunteer or member of staff to work with children or vulnerable adults that has been barred by ISA. (Currently on hold)
