The Difference to a young person’s life could be YOU!

Youth Federation is one of three organisations nationally piloting a Youth Achievement Foundation (YAF) offering informal education through youth work for young people who are ‘At Risk’ of dropping out of Education.  To complement the YAF the Youth Federation will provide a structured mentoring, education and recreation programme designed to help young people set goals for their future with the support of a caring volunteer mentor.

We are working in partnership with Bolton Lads and Girls Club (BL&GC) Mentoring Project to re-create a quality model in Macclesfield to benefit the young people taking part in the YAF project.  BL&GC was awarded “Gold Star” status by the Home Office, and are the only North West project to receive this award and are one of only eight organisations nationally so, have lots of good practice to share with us.

Mentors are recruited to provide a one to one supporting relationship for young people, helping the young person to make appropriate decisions regarding education, training and employment.  We will depend on volunteers to provide this valuable service for young people.  Particular skills or qualifications are not a pre-requisite to becoming a mentor with more of a focus on your life experience and attitude.  We need people who are committed, reliable and able to befriend young people, our current opportunities relate to the YAF project in Macclesfield.  We will provide ongoing support, training and development opportunities for all volunteer mentors.

Volunteering as a mentor can enhance your life in many different ways – an avenue into youth / social work, meeting new people, or just the satisfaction of helping a young person through a difficult time in their life.

Please contact the Youth Federation Mentor Coordinator Lynn Lowndes on 01606 784 782 for an application form or to discuss the project further.
