A school that was built upon Youth Fed’s Youth Achievement Foundation (YAF) has been shortlisted for the Alternative Provision of the Year Award, in the TES Schools Awards 2019.
Fermain Academy, based in the original Fermain Club, Oxford Road Macclesfield, was originally part of UK Youth’s National YAF Programme. The Macclesfield YAF pioneered alternative approaches to working with young people who struggled in mainstream education.
In 2014, Youth Fed were awarded the funding to establish the Fermain Academy and led by Youth Fed’s CEO Chris Hindley, the implementation team helped design the new school building, create an engaging curriculum and recruit the staff team who would deliver a vision. In September 2015 the Fermain Academy opened.
The annual TES School Awards celebrate the extraordinary commitment, quality and innovation shown by teachers and support staff across the UK. They celebrate schools and staff who raise the standards of education and make a positive impact on the personal and academic success of their students and wider community. The awards cover 19 categories, including creative school, sustainable school and alternative provision school of the year.
The Fermain Academy has beaten a number of applicants to be shortlisted for the Alternative Provision of the Year, ranking the school in the top 8 in the UK.
Congratulations to Head Teacher of The Fermain Academy, Nic Brindle and his team, the winners will be revealed on Friday 21st June 2019 so stay tuned!
